0 The new F1 rules rule!

March 29th, 2009

The 2009 season of the Formula One championship started this weekend, and it looks promising.

Formula One LogoLike every season’s first race, there was a lot of action. Pilots are ‘rusty’ and have to get their racing habits back, get their marks with their new cars. So we got served, as usual. But we got a little extra action, thanks to a lot of changes in the rules. I won’t list these changes ’cause there’s too many. Basically, the aerodynamics of the cars is much simpler and they use slick tires.

What does theses changes mean?

First thing, the cars look different, especially their front and rear wings. Also, we can see that the cars understeer more than before, and it looks a lot easier for drivers to overtake each other. The teams had to rebuild their cars from scratch, that means some might have gone in the wrong direction, others might be more fortunate. So small teams have a chance to be on top. And this is what seems to happen, as Brawn GP finished 1st and 2nd.

Where does Brawn GP come from?

This winter, Honda announced the sale of its F1 team, because of the economic crisis. Ross Brawn, the team manager decided to buy it less than a month ago, and named it after his name. Honda cars sucked really bad last season, so the engineers didn’t bother improving it, and worked on the current one (taking the new rules into account) very early compared to the other teams. So far it looks like it was a good decision.

A deserved a win for Jenson Button

I’m very happy for Jenson Button. He’s always been underrated, despite he’s one of the most consistent drivers in activity. He’s been unlucky the past few years with a crappy car, but it seems the wheel have turned…

The season seems very exciting… finally!
